Our Nina gathered trousers and shorts are high-waisted with a voluminous shape, a gathered waist and in-seam pockets. They have a gathered detail on each hip with a layered ruffle.

You can lengthen or shorten the Nina trousers/shorts to your specific measurements and preferences.

The Nina gathered trousers and shorts pattern is for intermediate sewers. It includes: understitching and topstitching; pockets; right-angle seams; an elasticated waistband; and gathering.

The pattern is an instant PDF download that you print. We provide both A4 and A0 printing options for the pattern, along with an instructions file. The pattern is for sizes 6-30 (see ‘Size & fit’ in the images). The instructions file gives step-by-step instructions on how to print the pattern, lay the pattern on fabric, cut the fabric and sew the project. It also includes a glossary, a detailed size guide and information on how you can alter the project for your preference.

This pattern is not for commercial use. It is not to be resold, duplicated or shared and it is for your personal use only. Items made using this pattern are also only for your personal use and must not be sold.

With this purchase you will be able to download the files up to 5 times over 30 days so please do so within this time period.

You will need

Fabric (see amounts in images). This pattern suits most light to medium-weight woven fabrics. For sustainable options, look for organic cotton, hemp, wool, linen, tencel or recycled fabrics. Check out the links on our sustainable fabric directory.

Thread

Sewing machine, fabric scissors and pins

Iron

40mm wide elastic. The length needs to comfortable stretch around your waist

A method of printing

Printing instructions

For A4 printing, make sure your printer is aligned before printing. If you open the pdf pattern in Adobe Acrobat Reader (which is free), then you can select the layer corresponding to your size along with the ‘for all sizes layer’, deselecting the other sizes. If not, all sizes are labelled anyway. Print the pattern with no scaling (this may be listed as ‘actual size’ or ‘100%’). There is a 1cm test square on page 1 that you can measure with a ruler to check that you have printed it out correctly. After printing, lay out the pages referring to the codes in the pink circles (numbers refer to rows and letters to columns), butting the edges up together (do not overlap or cut the paper). Stick the pages together using tape. There may be a small unprinted margin at the edges of your pages; this is normal and we have made sure not to place information or intricate parts of the pattern here.
