Batik workshop, 2hrs
batik workshop, multiple dates available
In this batik workshop, you will work in a small group led by Suzie to make your own set of batik pieces. Batik is a traditional dyeing technique that originated from the Island of Java, Indonesia. It uses wax to create pattern on fabric which resist dyeing.
The process of batik is incredibly mindful and grounding. The wax can be unpredictable and the dyed result has a stunning ‘cracked’ effect with a character of its own. The main aim of this class is to create a fun space for you to play with different techniques to express yourself uniquely. It is not necessarily to re-create traditional designs (although this is also very welcome).
Suzie will guide you to make your batik designs, along with inspirational materials and options in traditional and more modern tools. Moreover, there will be an optional follow-up session to sew your final pieces into a product. For example, a cushion, needle book, bag, purse, or scrunchie etc.
This workshop is led by Suzie in her home studio in Long Eaton, NG10 2DW and is two hours in length. The workshop includes fabric, dye and vegan wax.
Light refreshments will be provided, including tea, coffee and of course biscuits.
You access the workshop space via stairs.
