Learn to sew for beginners

6pm-8pm on Thursdays

2 hour class

Ford & Guy, 96 Chilwell Road Beeston, NG9 1ES

Join Suzie in this workshop to learn how to use a sewing machine. You can either bring your own sewing machine or use one of ours (please let us know your preference in the notes when booking). Suzie will guide you through threading your machine, various types of stitches, how to trouble-shoot issues with your machine and its maintenance. You will also have the opportunity to make a small item to practise what you have learnt. This can either be a needle/pin book, a scrunchie or an idea of your own.

Suzie will also be able to answer any questions that you have and provide advice for your sewing projects.

me and my mum came to the learn to sew for beginners workshop in may. we have both sewn a bit before but either not much or not for a long time. Suzie was brilliant, she was completely engaging and supportive and tailored the workshop to the needs of everyone there. she gracefully and skillfully navigated between us all, working out our experience level and tailoring her suggestions for each person. 3/4 people there brought their own machines, and she was able to speak to each and every one regardless of how old or new. the workshop moved at a lovely pace, we always had something to do but were never overwhelmed (which is my natural state, so that’s impressive). on the drive home, mum and i were both raving about how much we had learned about our machines and general sewing tips. we will 5000% be returning for another class in the future!

I attended a Learn to Sew for Beginners class in May and really enjoyed it. I brought an old sewing machine with me that hadn’t been used in a long time and I was a complete beginner. Suzie was able to help me use it easily and tailor her teaching to my machine as well as the more modern machines others were using. We learnt by doing things ourselves and completing a small project which meant that I was able to remember what to do and repeat it at home which really worked for me. I’d love to do another sewing class again with Suzie in future!

I attended Suzie’s beginners’ workshop in July and had an amazing time, meeting new friends and learning my way around my new sewing machine, which I hadn’t even switched on before the lesson! Suzie’s tuition is exceptional, kind, patient and skilled, and at the end of the session all of us had made a very useful little needle book. In two hours Suzie took me from an absolute step one beginner to having a really good grasp of the basic operation of my machine, and I’m not afraid of it any more! Thank you Suzie, very much looking forward to booking more sessions with you in future when I can.
