Product Details

We make our cut shapes jumper in blue organic cotton fleece. With an oversized, cocoon shape and ribbing around the neck, arms and bottom edge, the jumper is super comfortable to wear. Moreover, the fleece is really soft and fluffy on the inside.

We hand make each jumper in our workshop in Nottingham, England. Each item is made-to-order, minimising fabric wastage.

Inspiration for this piece

The pink and yellow shapes are painted by Suzie, inspired by the cuttings of Henri Matisse. Despite Matisse’s physical decline in health,  he continued to create art using methods that were accessible to him, such as cutting paper. Suzie takes great inspiration from this as she manages chronic back pain. She finds huge freedom of expression in the paper cutting process, which helps her to escape from the rigid limits of her back pain. Suzie cuts paper into shapes representing the joyful expression of physical movement on her less painful days. She then pushes fabric ink through these stencils with a screen print frame. Every jumper will naturally vary due to the organic nature of this process.

Suzie is currently carrying out an MSc research project on chronic pain at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training institute. This piece is an outcome from her journey through self-reflection, acceptance and expression of identity. The choice to put this particular design onto a fleece jumper reflects its primary meaning about self-acceptance and self-care. Even on days when we are experiencing physical or mental pain and we feel less like ourselves,  this jumper acts as a reminder that our true fabulous selves are still in there. On days when we just need to wear something comforting and easy that gets us through, we don’t have to let go of who we are.

Material

We make our cut shapes jumper from blue 100% Organic Cotton jersey with a fleece inside.

SUSTAINABLE

Organic cotton is more sustainable than regular cotton because the process is based on long-term thinking. Organic cotton farming does not use synthetic insecticides, fungicides or fertilisers. Healthy soil is instead maintained through crop rotation. This prevents the loss of nutrients into water bodies and avoids both water pollution and the need for artificial fertilisers. Organic cotton farming also uses significantly less water than ordinary cotton, whereby farmers rely mainly on rainwater. Find out more about organic farming at the Textile Exchange!

The labels we use are made from recycled fabric that is OEKO-TEX standard 100 certified. We also package the product in recycled paper.
